WHO AM I

Are you looking for someone creative? Well, that’s me. Ever since I was a young girl, I was born to be an artist.

You can say it runs in the family, starting with my grandmother, Elizabeth M. Wright-Cumming. She has always been an inspiration to me. I have always admired her artistic skills. Through her years, she has painted many paintings, from oils to acrylics. She also hand-painted a beautiful collection of ceramic Santa Clauses that would decorate her home at Christmas time.

I like to think of my father as another inspiration in my life. He is an artist too, in his own special way. He is a restorative artist. He specializes in embalming and cosmetics. My father, Gary J. Cumming, has been a funeral director for over 42 years. Semi-retired, he still continues to do cosmetics on families’ loved ones from time to time. I like to say, he paints a “picture of memory” for the families. He is truly dedicated to his work as a funeral director.

I could go on how creative my family is, but it would take up the entire page. Now that you know where my creativity originated, let me tell you a little more about myself as an artist.

I’m not going to be humble because it’s hard to be modest about something you were born with. Everyone may see me in a different light, but all agree that my artistic eye is the one thing that stays constant. It doesn’t matter what media I use to express my inner creativity, I am able to show how versatile I can be as an artist.

Let’s define the term artist:

I asked my brother, who is a master with words, how he would define the word artist. His definition of an artist is:

“A person with an innate need to create or convey
a message through sensory media.”

I myself agree. I can not define it any other way. Whether you are a musician, an actor/actress, a poet, or a painter, your innate need is to create or convey a message.

So, what am I saying about myself as an artist?

I am an artist in it’s entirety. I am a painter, a writer, a musician, a performer, etc. I have a need to create and my medium or message is not one that is constant. It is always changing.

My Graphic Design Career

As for my skills in graphic design, I have taken on many personal and professional clients locally and nation wide. Individually, I  have helped them through the creative process to conceptualize and produce their visual needs with custom designs, promotional and marketing materials as well as large-scale and oversize designs (posters, banners, wall murals, vehicle decals and much more.)

As of now, I collaborate with a marketing company, promoting funeral homes across the eastern nation. Together, we use various marketing concepts to help promote funeral homes in their local areas, providing them with marketing materials, such as brochures, business cards, etc. and with social media advertising and videos.

I further would like to advance my skills in the web and social media realm. I find it challenging with the new advances in technology, yet exciting as it offers graphic designers and their clientele the tools they need to grow their businesses.
